SEOUL - SK Telecom Co., a major South Korean mobile carrier, announced its collaboration with Deutsche Telekom, Germany's telecommunications company, for the development of a telco-specific large language model (LLM).
According to a new release by Yonhap News Agency, The companies have signed a letter of intent (LOI) to work with leading artificial intelligence (AI) entities, including Anthropic and Meta, to develop a multilingual LLM customized for telecommunications services. The first version of this model is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year and will offer services in German, English, Korean, among other languages.
The collaboration also aims to jointly develop AI platform technologies that telecom companies can use to create generative AI services at reduced development time and cost. "Through our partnership with Deutsche Telekom, we have secured a strong opportunity and momentum to gain global AI leadership and drive new growth," said SKT's CEO Ryu Young-sang.
