Seoul: South Korea is facing the season’s coldest weather, with record low temperatures hitting the capital and other regions of the country.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) reported that Seoul experienced morning lows of minus 12.4 C on Sunday, and anticipates a further drop in temperatures on Monday, with forecasts between minus 18 C and minus 3 C. In the Daegwallyeong district in Gangwon Province, the morning lows plunged to minus 16.8 C, with a sensible temperature nearing minus 29.7 C. This cold wave has severely impacted Jeju Island, leading to the cancellation of 12 flights and delays of 30 others at Jeju International Airport as of Sunday morning. Mountainous areas in Jeju received up to 20.1 centimeters of snow, following the KMA’s heavy snow warnings for central and western areas of the country. A cold wave advisory, which is issued when the morning low falls below minus 12 C for more than two consecutive days or when there is a temperature drop of more than 10 C to below minus 3 C, is in effect in Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, and Daegu. The Seoul metropolitan government has maintained the cold wave advisory and is taking necessary precautions to mitigate potential damages.
