South Korea, U.S., and Japan Condemn North Korea’s Weapons Supply to Russia

SEOUL, – A joint statement was issued by South Korea, the United States, and Japan on Thursday, condemning North Korea for supplying military equipment and munitions to Russia. The countries indicated that they have confirmed the completion of several such weapons deliveries.

According to a new release by the Yonhap News Agency, the statement comes in the wake of revelations from Washington that over 1,000 containers of military equipment and munitions were sent from Pyongyang to Moscow. This occurred as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a rare summit last month. The joint statement stressed that the arms supplies to Russia are in violation of multiple U.N. Security Council resolutions, which Russia itself has voted for. The statement also emphasized the countries’ deep concern about the potential transfer of nuclear or ballistic missile-related technology to North Korea.
