Seoul, South Korea – In a significant trilateral meeting, the national security advisers of South Korea, the United States, and Japan have jointly reaffirmed that North Korea is obligated under United Nations Security Council resolutions to cease its nuclear weapons program and halt military cooperation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, The statement was made by South Korea’s National Security Adviser Cho Tae-yong during a joint press briefing with his American and Japanese counterparts, Jake Sullivan and Takeo Akiba, following their talks in Seoul.
“We reaffirmed North Korea’s obligation under U.N. Security Council resolutions to denuclearize and ban military cooperation, and agreed to strengthen cooperation among the three countries to secure the international community’s strict implementation,” Cho stated.
Furthermore, Cho mentioned that the three nations agreed to promptly advance their trilateral security cooperation. This includes the real-time sharing of data on North Korean missile warnings and the development of multiyear plans for trilateral military exercises.
These discussions and agreements signify a continued commitment by South Korea, the United States, and Japan to address the challenges posed by North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and to maintain stability in the region.
