South Korea’s Industrial Output Climbs 1.1% in September, Driven by Semiconductor Sector

SEOUL — South Korea's industrial output increased for the second consecutive month in September, primarily fueled by the semiconductor sector, newly released data showed on Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, industrial output advanced 1.1% on a month-to-month basis last month, following a 2% gain in August.

Year-on-year, industrial output rose 2.8%. The data indicated that September's growth was particularly robust in the chip industry, which saw a 12.9% month-to-month gain. Retail sales, considered a measure of private spending, slightly increased by 0.2% on-month, halting a two-month decline. Facility investment also exhibited strength, surging 8.7% compared to a 4% rise the previous month.
