South Korea’s Top Nuclear Envoy Discusses North Korea-Russia Military Cooperation with NATO Official

SEOUL – Kim Gunn, South Korea’s top nuclear envoy, held a meeting with Angus Lapsley, NATO’s assistant secretary-general for defense policy and planning, on Wednesday. The primary focus of the discussion was increasing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia, including suspected arms deals, according to a statement from South Korea’s foreign ministry.

Yonhap News Agency reports that both sides expressed deep concerns over Pyongyang’s growing military ties with Moscow. They agreed on the need for close communication to formulate a united and stern response to any future provocations from North Korea, including the escalation of its nuclear and missile programs. Kim Gunn also highlighted NATO’s consistent stance against North Korea’s nuclear ambitions, acknowledging its contribution to international efforts aimed at the North’s denuclearization.
