SEOUL, The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld prison sentences for a former National Intelligence Service chief and an ex-ranking prosecutor convicted of hampering a 2013 prosecution probe into the spy agency's alleged political interference.

The top court finalized the 3 1/2 year prison term for ex-NIS chief Nam Jae-joon and a one-year term for Chang Ho-joong, former chief prosecutor of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office.

They were accused of leading a scheme to cover up massive cyber operations by the spy agency intended to influence public opinion in favor of the conservative government.

The lower courts have found them guilty of trying to conceal the operations by making fake documents and telling the cyber team members to lie to the prosecution and court.
