Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he anticipates traveling to China for a summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping "in about five or six weeks." This trip was originally postponed due to the ongoing conflict with Iran.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump disclosed these plans during a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin in the Oval Office. He explained that his administration is "resetting" the crucial meeting with Xi in Beijing, initially scheduled for March 31 to April 2. In response to a reporter's inquiry about the postponed trip, Trump stated, "It looks like it'll take place in about five weeks. We are working with China. They were fine with it."
Trump expressed optimism about the visit, saying, "I look forward to seeing President Xi. He looks forward to seeing me, I think ... We have a good relationship with China." He reiterated, "We are making it in about five or six weeks."
The planned summit between Trump and Xi is expected to cover significant topics, including trade in agricultural products, critical minerals, and both regional and global security concerns.
