Trump Optimistic About Future US-China Relations During Beijing Visit

Beijing: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed hope on Friday that the relationship between Washington and Beijing will be "stronger and better than ever before," as he was set to conclude the second and final day of talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump made the remarks in a social media post, highlighting his policy achievements and renewing his criticism of former U.S. President Joe Biden's administration. Trump stated, "Two years ago, we were, in fact, a Nation in decline. On that, I fully agree with President Xi!" He emphasized that the United States is now the "hottest Nation anywhere in the world," and expressed hope for improved relations with China.

Trump argued that when Xi referred to the U.S. as "a declining nation," it was in reference to the "tremendous damage" the U.S. suffered during Biden's administration, though he did not specify where Xi made that comment. "In fact, President Xi congratulated me on so many tremendous successes in such a short period of time," Trump added.

On Friday, Trump will conclude his three-day visit to China. Both leaders are expected to meet in person multiple times later this year, including during Xi's anticipated reciprocal visit to Washington in September and on the margins of multilateral forums such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Shenzhen, China, in November.
