Trump Urges South Korea to Join Strait of Hormuz Mission Amid Iran Tensions

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Iran has targeted a South Korean cargo ship, emphasizing the need for South Korea's involvement in reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Trump made these comments on Monday through a social media post, highlighting the escalating tensions in the region.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's remarks coincided with the launch of a U.S. operation named Project Freedom. This initiative aims to guide commercial vessels that have been stranded due to the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, through the strategically significant waterway. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for transporting oil and other commodities globally.

Trump stated on Truth Social, "Iran has taken some shots at unrelated Nations with respect to the Ship Movement, PROJECT FREEDOM, including a South Korean Cargo Ship. Perhaps it's time for South Korea to come and join the mission!" He further elaborated on the situation, noting the destruction of seven Iranian boats labeled as 'fast' boats, and reassured that outside of the South Korean vessel, no additional damage has been reported in the strait.
