Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong-kyun Set for Diplomatic Talks in Saudi Arabia and Qatar

SEOUL – South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister, Kim Hong-kyun, is scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar for a series of high-level discussions on bilateral relations, continuing the diplomatic efforts initiated by President Yoon Suk Yeol last year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, The Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that Kim’s trip, which runs from Tuesday to Friday, aims to follow up on President Yoon’s state visits to these nations in October. During his 2022 visits, President Yoon met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to enhance economic ties and expand opportunities for South Korean businesses. The engagements last year resulted in the signing of deals and memoranda of understanding valued at $15.6 billion with Riyadh and a $3.9 billion contract in Doha for HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to construct 17 liquefied natural gas carriers.
