SEOUL, :The number of people visiting ski resorts around Seoul decreased this year due a sharp drop in temperatures, resort operators said Monday.

According to the Vivaldi Park ski resort in Hongcheon, the number of visitors in January decreased 14.3 percent compared to the first month of 2017.

Yongpyeong Resort, one of the biggest ski resorts in the nation, with 28 slopes, also attracted around 100,000 visitors last month, down a significant 23.1 percent on-year.

The Jisan Forest Resort in Jisan, a resort just outside the capital city, said 114,279 people visited its slopes in the one month period, representing a 20.3 percent on-year drop.

Most parts of South Korea have been affected by a severe cold wave, and the weather agency has frequently issued cold weather alerts across the country. In January, the temperature in Seoul on some days fell to an unusually low minus 19 degrees Celsius, with wind chill making it seem even colder.
