Yoon Appoints Kim Wan-sup as New Environment Minister

President Yoon Suk Yeol has appointed Kim Wan-sup, a former vice finance minister, as the new environment minister, marking a strategic choice given Kim’s background in budget planning related to environmental policies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, who previously held key positions in the finance ministry where he managed environment-related budgeting, replaces outgoing Environment Minister Han Wha-jin. His nomination was confirmed earlier today following the adoption of a report by the National Assembly’s Environment and Labor Committee. Kim’s appointment comes after his involvement in the Yoon government’s budget preparations as the head of the finance ministry’s budget office and a recent unsuccessful bid for a National Assembly seat in Wonju, Gangwon Province during the April general elections.
