Samsung Electronics Workers to Launch Three-Day Strike Over Wages and Conditions

SEOUL — Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics Co. have announced plans to conduct a three-day general strike starting next Monday, following the breakdown of negotiations with management regarding wage increases and working conditions.

According to Yonhap News Agency, president of the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), which represents 28,000 members or about 22 percent of the company's total workforce, the strike aims to pressure the company into meeting their demands, which include a significant wage increase and improved vacation policies. Despite ongoing discussions since January, the union and management have not reached an agreement on the issues, including a one-day vacation for all employees and salary raises for the 855 members who opted out of the 2024 salary negotiation agreement. The union is also pushing for compensation for economic losses suffered during unpaid strike days. This upcoming strike follows a one-day walkout in June, the first in the company's history.
