Korea Baseball Organization Nears Historic Fan Attendance Milestone Before Season’s Midpoint

Seoul - The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) is on the brink of surpassing a major attendance milestone, potentially reaching over 6 million fans before the All-Star break, a first in its history.

According to Yonhap News Agency, its ten teams have collectively attracted just over 5.92 million fans through 408 games up to Tuesday. With only ten games left before the All-Star break this Friday, the league requires approximately 70,600 more attendees to break the 6 million mark. This achievement would not only set a new record for total attendance before the midseason break but also for the fewest games needed to reach this figure, with teams playing a maximum of 418 games before the All-Star weekend.

Historically, this level of fan engagement is unprecedented in the KBO. All ten clubs are averaging over 10,000 fans per game at home this season, a significant increase compared to past years. In particular, the Kia Tigers have seen the largest attendance increase, with numbers up 77% from the same point last season, nearing their total last season’s attendance in just the first half of this season. Similarly, the Hanwha Eagles have sold out 30 of their 42 home games, contributing to a league-wide total of 116 sellouts—a new single-season record. This enthusiastic fan turnout highlights the growing popularity and competitive excitement surrounding Korean baseball.
