Seoul - MBK Partners, a prominent private equity firm, has announced plans to acquire Alinamin Pharmaceutical, a leading Japanese drugmaker, for 2.9 trillion won (approximately US$2.1 billion). This acquisition marks a significant expansion of MBK's portfolio in the healthcare sector.
According to Yonhap News Agency, MBK Partners will purchase the supplement maker from the U.S. investment fund Blackstone through a stock purchase agreement set to be finalized later today. Alinamin Pharmaceutical, initially a subsidiary of Japan's Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. under the name Takeda Consumer Healthcare, was acquired by Blackstone in 2021. The company is renowned for its over-the-counter medicines, including a variety of vitamins. This acquisition follows MBK's recent purchases of South Korea's Osstem Implant, a top dental implant firm, and Medit Corp, a maker of 3D dental scanners, highlighting its strategic focus on strengthening its position in the healthcare industry.
