GWANGJU - Torrential rain alerts were declared on Saturday across southern regions of South Korea, as heavy rainfall continues to impact the area.
According to Yonhap News Agency, alerts were specifically issued for North and South Jeolla provinces, including Gwangju, due to forecasts predicting rainfall exceeding 60 millimeters over three hours or 110 mm across twelve hours. As early as 9 a.m., Gimje experienced more than 90 mm of rain per hour, while nearby Gunsan recorded approximately 76.5 mm, and Gwangju reported 50 mm. Despite the severe weather, no casualties or significant damage to facilities has been reported thus far. A KMA official advised residents to prepare for potential flooding and landslides given the rapid onset of heavy rains.
