PARIS — South Korea's women's archery team is set to defend one of the most impressive records in Olympic history this Sunday in Paris, aiming to secure their 10th consecutive gold medal in the women's team event since its inception at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
According to Yonhap News Agency Jeon Hun-young are the archers entrusted with continuing South Korea's unmatched legacy in this discipline. The team's prospects looked promising when Lim set a new world record in the women's ranking round, scoring 694 out of a possible 720 points. Nam followed closely, securing the second position with 688 points, while Jeon finished 13th with 664 points. Their collective score set an Olympic record and earned South Korea the top seed for the competition, which begins with the round of 16 at Les Invalides.
Lim, who has notable international experience with three gold medals at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, will also compete in the mixed team event with Kim Woo-jin, who topped the men's ranking round. However, the immediate focus remains on the team event, where South Korea is set to face the winner of the preliminary match between the United States and Chinese Taipei.
The potential for a high-stakes final looms, as China, coached by South Korean-born Kwon Yong-hak and a recent victor over South Korea at World Cup events, remains on the opposite side of the bracket. The Olympic schedule places the women’s team bronze medal match late Sunday night, with the gold medal contest just after midnight Monday, Seoul time.
In addition to archery, the day's events include competitions for Hwang Sun-woo, the world champion in the men's 200 meters freestyle swimming, with his heats scheduled for Sunday morning and the final on Monday evening. The South Korean women's handball team, coming off a narrow victory over Germany, will also be in action against Slovenia.
