JEONGEUP — Thirteen people were injured, three seriously, in a multi-vehicle pileup on the Honam Expressway in Jeongeup, about 221 kilometers south of Seoul, authorities reported on Monday. The incident, involving nine vehicles, occurred shortly after noon and is attributed to a collision initiated by a large truck.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the chain reaction started when a 22.5-ton truck collided with a 1-ton truck amidst heavy traffic on the northbound lanes. This initial crash led to successive collisions involving the vehicles ahead, culminating in injuries but no life-threatening conditions reported among the victims. The expressway was temporarily obstructed with debris and damaged vehicles, causing significant traffic delays. The driver of the 22.5-ton truck, who admitted to feeling drowsy at the time of the accident, has been detained for further investigation.
