Samsung Electronics and KT Corp Collaborate to Build Private 5G Network for South Korean Navy

SEOUL: Samsung Electronics Co. and KT Corp are set to collaborate on constructing a private 5G network for the South Korean Navy, aiming to enhance defense capabilities through advanced technological integration. According to Yonhap News Agency, the partnership between Samsung Electronics and the local mobile carrier KT Corp will focus on developing a "Smart Naval Port" project by the end of the next year. This initiative is designed to improve battleship and base operation support capabilities and achieve a more comprehensive base defense system. The project will include the deployment of intelligent and fully independent 5G network solutions tailored specifically for naval operations. These advancements are expected to support critical defense sectors that demand ultrafast communication speeds and hyper-connectivity. Furthermore, Samsung and KT plan to establish a robust information and communications technology infrastructure at the naval base. This infrastructure will integrate 13 different systems, ra nging from uncrewed vehicle operation to armory and ammunition depot management. Additional features will include a digital twin of the naval base, an advanced security monitoring system, and a comprehensive battleship operation management system. Simon Lee, vice president and head of the business development group at Samsung Electronics, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, "In collaboration with KT, we are excited to deploy Korea's first private 5G at a naval base."
