Government Seeks International Partnerships to Boost Carbon Capture Technologies

SEOUL: The government convened a pivotal conference on Wednesday, aimed at fostering international collaborations to enhance the adoption of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology, in a move to push forward its carbon neutrality goals, according to the foreign ministry. According to Yonhap News Agency, the event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Commission on Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth. The conference saw the participation of approximately 300 experts and academics who deliberated on various aspects of CCS technology. This technology is crucial for capturing carbon dioxide emissions from industrial activities before they enter the atmosphere, and subsequently storing them in secure, long-term facilities. The discussions at the conference covered a broad range of topics including the examination of both domestic and international legal and institutional frameworks that support cross-border CCS initiatives. Additionally, the conference highlighted major policies and projects underway in key countries, aiming to draw lessons and forge partnerships that could bolster global efforts in carbon management. The focus was also on enhancing cooperative measures across borders to leverage CCS technology more effectively in the fight against climate change.
