Moon Jae-in’s Daughter Investigated for Drunk Driving Incident in Seoul

SEOUL: Former President Moon Jae-in's daughter, Moon Da-hye, was questioned by police on Friday regarding her involvement in a car accident while allegedly under the influence of alcohol. According to Yonhap News Agency, Moon Da-hye appeared at the Yongsan Police Station at approximately 1:40 p.m. for the questioning session. This follows an incident that occurred on October 5 in Seoul's Itaewon district, where she allegedly collided with a taxi while attempting a lane change. At the time of the accident, her blood alcohol concentration was recorded at 0.14 percent, well above the country's legal limit of 0.08 percent, which typically results in driver's license revocation. Upon her arrival at the station, Moon expressed her apologies to the public and the media, committing to cooperate fully with the police investigation. She refrained from answering specific questions regarding the amount of alcohol consumed or her recollection of the event. Later, she issued a formal statement expressing remorse for her actions and acknowledging the gravity of her mistake. The accident's surveillance footage indicated that Moon did not use her turn signal when changing lanes. The taxi driver involved sustained minor injuries but has reportedly settled with Moon and chose not to provide a medical diagnosis to the police, which could influence the charges pressed against her. Given the circumstances and the settlement with the victim, it is anticipated that Moon will face charges solely related to drunk driving, without additional charges that would require the victim's medical diagnosis as evidence.
