Ex-Korean Series MVP Park Kyung-su Announces Retirement

SUWON: Park Kyung-su, former Korean Series MVP for the KT Wiz, announced his retirement Friday at age 40. According to Yonhap News Agency, Park Kyung-su decided to conclude his 22-year long career with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) amid heartfelt thanks to his supporters. "I was able to play professional baseball for 22 years thanks to enthusiastic support from fans," Park said in a statement. He also expressed gratitude towards his teammates and coaches, acknowledging their contribution to his successful career which peaked with the Korean Series MVP award in 2021. Park's career highlight came when he played a pivotal role in leading the KT Wiz to their first-ever KBO championship in 2021. Despite suffering a leg injury that kept him from playing in the final game, his earlier performances in the series, including a home run and outstanding defensive plays, were crucial in securing the team's victory over the Doosan Bears in a four-game sweep. His appearance on crutches during the championship cele brations was widely regarded as a symbol of dedication and team spirit. Beginning his career with the LG Twins in 2003, Park joined the KT Wiz in their debut season in 2015 and was a key figure in the team, serving as captain several times. Despite limited playtime in his final season, he continued to exhibit leadership and remained an influential team presence. Park's retirement ceremony is scheduled to be held early next season, where he will be honored for his contributions to the team and the sport. Over his career, Park appeared in 2,043 games, placing him 17th in all-time KBO appearances, with a batting average of .249, 161 home runs, 719 RBIs, and 727 runs scored.
