London: Seegene Inc., a South Korean molecular diagnostics company, announced a strategic collaboration with Microsoft and Springer Nature to create a "world free from all diseases" by sharing its diagnostic technology globally. The initiative, unveiled during a roundtable at Springer Nature's London headquarters, aims to enhance global pandemic preparedness by 2028. According to Yonhap News Agency, the collaboration follows Seegene's strategic partnership formed earlier this year with Microsoft, known for its artificial intelligence capabilities, and Springer Nature, a renowned scientific journal publisher. The "technology sharing initiative" seeks to distribute Seegene's advanced diagnostic technologies to partner companies in approximately 100 countries, focusing on preventing and curing infectious diseases. This initiative is expected to facilitate the development and manufacturing of syndromic real-time PCR testing products tailored to specific public health needs across various nations. Seegene, found ed in 2000, gained prominence as one of the first companies to develop a COVID-19 testing kit, exporting over 340 million test kits to more than a hundred countries. Chun Jong-yoon, Seegene's CEO, emphasized the critical role of AI in managing vast diagnostic data and enabling swift responses to emerging diseases. The company has already partnered with Spanish diagnostics firm Werfen and Israeli microbiology specialist Hy Laboratories Ltd. to further the initiative. Seegene plans to establish joint ventures with Hy Lab and Werfen to develop diagnostic products for country-specific diseases. A joint declaration for a "world free from diseases" is expected next year to drive further international collaborations. Chun highlighted the increasing risk of simultaneous pandemics due to climate change and stressed the importance of global cooperation in sharing diagnostic technology to respond effectively to emerging health threats.
