Chinese Officials Visit South Korea to Bolster Bilateral Ties

SEOUL: A delegation of mid-level Chinese provincial government officials is visiting South Korea this week, aiming to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the two countries, the South Korean foreign ministry announced. The visit marks a significant step in revitalizing diplomatic interactions at central and provincial levels, especially under the current geopolitical climate. According to Yonhap News Agency, the delegation consists of foreign affairs officials from 16 Chinese provincial governments, including Shandong, Sichuan, Guangdong, Liaoning, and Jiangsu. Their five-day visit will encompass meetings with South Korean government officials in Seoul to explore ways to enhance bilateral partnerships and cooperation. Additionally, the group will travel to Gyeongju and Jeju Island to engage in exchange programs designed to foster mutual understanding and collaboration. This week's exchange programs signify the resumption of such interactions after a five-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. The renewed efforts come as South Korea seeks to manage its occasionally strained relationship with China, particularly as it strengthens ties with the United States under the Yoon Suk Yeol administration.
