Brussels: A South Korean government delegation visited the European Union headquarters in Brussels to brief officials on North Korea's deployment of troops to Russia, according to an EU official. The delegation consisted of high-level intelligence, defense, and foreign affairs officials from Seoul, aiming to share their assessments and information with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the EU regarding North Korea's contribution to Russia's war efforts in Ukraine. The delegation had previously briefed NATO on the situation. According to Yonhap News Agency, Nabila Massrali, EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, confirmed the meeting with the South Korean delegation during a press briefing. While she refrained from providing further details, Massrali mentioned that the upcoming visit to South Korea by Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, should be considered in the context of these developments. She emphasized that the EU member states are actively discussing the sit uation and warned that North Korea's continued military support to Russia would elicit an appropriate response. DPRK, the acronym for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, was mentioned in discussions between European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. They stressed that the involvement of North Korean soldiers in support of Russia marked a significant escalation in the conflict and posed a serious threat to European security and global peace. In a statement following the Monday briefing, Rutte confirmed that North Korean troops have been deployed to the Kursk region in western Russia, a critical area in its ongoing conflict with Ukraine. Meanwhile, South Korea's foreign ministry announced plans for Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul to engage in strategic talks with Borrell, with North Korea's troop involvement in Russia expected to be a primary topic of discussion.
