Seoul: South Korea's industrial output and retail sales shrank from a month earlier in September, data showed Thursday. Industrial production fell 0.3 percent on-month, following a 1.2 percent increase in August, according to data compiled by Statistics Korea. In on-year terms, industrial output went down 1.1 percent in September. According to Yonhap News Agency, retail sales, a gauge of private spending, shed 0.4 percent from a month before in September, following 2 percent growth the previous month. Despite the decline in both industrial production and retail sales, facility investment showed a positive trend, surging 8.4 percent on-month. This marked a significant rebound from August's 5.1 percent fall, indicating a potential area of economic resilience amid the downturn in other sectors.
