Cheongju: JSR Corp., a Japanese semiconductor materials producer, has initiated the construction of a new production line in South Korea, aiming to enhance the chip industry's supply chain, the industry ministry announced Tuesday. The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility, dedicated to producing metal oxide resist-a type of photoresist essential in chip production-took place in Cheongju, situated 111 kilometers south of Seoul. According to Yonhap News Agency, JSR, recognized as the world's leading producer of photoresist, first established a production line in South Korea in 2003. Since then, the company has incrementally increased its investment in the region. The new production line is slated to commence operations in 2026, further strengthening JSR's foothold in the semiconductor materials market. In a statement, Kim Dae-ja, a senior official from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, emphasized the ministry's commitment to supporting JSR's investment through collaboration with North Chungch eong Province and Cheongju. "The ministry will provide full support to ensure JSR's investment is successfully implemented, leading to additional commitments," Kim stated. Furthermore, Kim highlighted the government's ongoing policy efforts to position South Korea as a global hub for cutting-edge industries.
