S. Korea Voices Regret Over Thailand’s Deportation of Uyghurs to China

Seoul: The foreign ministry of South Korea expressed regret over the recent deportation of dozens of Uyghurs from Thailand to China. This statement was made following reports that Thai and Chinese authorities had confirmed the deportation of 40 Uyghurs who had been detained in Thailand for more than a decade.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean government reiterated its commitment to the principle of non-refoulement under international law. The foreign ministry emphasized the importance of handling such matters in alignment with universal values, including human rights.

The United States and other Western nations have previously accused China of persecuting Uyghurs, raising concerns about their forced repatriation. These countries have voiced opposition to the deportation practices, advocating for the protection of Uyghur rights.
