Trump Announces New Tariffs on Agricultural Imports Starting April 2

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump sent a message Monday to U.S. farmers that tariffs on "external products" will begin early next month, signaling the introduction of new duties on agricultural imports.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump stated that the new tariffs will commence on April 2. This announcement is part of Trump's broader strategy to reduce America's trade deficits, enhance domestic manufacturing, and address issues such as the flow of undocumented migrants and illicit drugs.

In a message posted on Truth Social, Trump addressed U.S. farmers, encouraging them to prepare for increased domestic production. "To the Great Farmers of the United States: Get ready to start making a lot of agricultural product to be sold INSIDE of the United States," he wrote. "Tariffs will go on external product on April 2nd. Have fun!"

In addition to the tariffs on agricultural imports, Trump has also announced plans to impose 25 percent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports starting March 12. He is also considering "reciprocal" tariffs and potential new tariffs on cars, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals.
