Seoul: U.S.-based bedding manufacturer Tempur Sealy is set to construct its largest mattress plant in Asia in South Korea by next year to cater to the increasing local demand for its products, as announced by Sealy Korea.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Sealy Korea has been operating a mattress manufacturing facility in Yeoju, located 64 kilometers southeast of Seoul, since 2016. The company plans to close this existing plant once the new facility is completed near the same city. The construction for the new plant is scheduled to commence in June.
Simon Dyer, the chairman and chief executive officer of Sealy's Asia-Pacific operations, expressed in a press release that Sealy Korea is the fastest-growing operation globally within Sealy. The decision to establish a new factory in Yeoju highlights the company's confidence in the market and its workforce.
The investment in South Korea is part of a strategic plan to develop it as a global manufacturing hub for the U.S. company. However, the company has not disclosed the exact timeline for the plant's completion or the size of the investment. Tempur Sealy currently has production facilities in the United States, Europe, and several other countries, including Australia and China.
