Samsung Heavy Secures $322 Million Ethane Ship Order in Asia

Seoul: Samsung Heavy Industries Co., the world's third-largest shipbuilder by orders, announced it has acquired a 466 billion-won (US$322 million) contract to construct two very large ethane carriers (VLECs) for an Asian client. The company revealed that the VLECs are scheduled for delivery by February 2028, though the identity of the shipper remains undisclosed.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this recent order contributes to Samsung Heavy's achievement of approximately $1.9 billion in orders, accounting for 19 percent of its annual target of $9.8 billion. As of the end of February, the company reported an order backlog of $30.5 billion, ensuring that its Geoje-based shipyard, situated about 330 kilometers south of Seoul, will remain operationally engaged for the next three years.
