Seoul: South Korea reported an additional foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) case at a local cattle farm, raising the number of cases this year to 14, the agriculture ministry said Monday. The latest case was identified at a farm in the county of Yeongam, approximately 300 kilometers south of Seoul, which has a total of 31 cows, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.
According to Yonhap News Agency, FMD is an acute infectious viral disease that causes illness in cows, pigs, goats, and other cloven-hoofed animals. The disease, however, does not affect humans, posing no direct health risk to the population.
