Tokyo: Tving, the streaming service owned by CJ ENM Co., has announced a strategic partnership with Disney+ to penetrate the Japanese streaming market as part of its international expansion strategy. The collaboration will see the introduction of "Tving Collection on Disney+" on the Japanese platform of Disney+, starting this Wednesday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, this initiative marks a significant milestone as it is the first time Disney+, the subscription-based OTT service operated by Walt Disney Co., has curated a dedicated brand section for content from a local streamer in the Asia-Pacific region. The Japanese version of Disney+ will now feature Tving's original series alongside CJ ENM's global successes, providing Japanese audiences with a diverse array of content.
Tving emphasized that Disney+ has established a strong reputation and a devoted following in Japan, a crucial market where international streaming platforms are in fierce competition. By joining forces, Disney+ aims to enhance its competitive edge in Japan by blending its array of blockbuster global and local titles with the growing appeal of Korean content.
For Tving, this partnership provides a platform to elevate its status as a leading Korean content provider while mitigating the challenges typically associated with entering a new market. The collaboration is expected to lead to further strategic initiatives designed to deliver an enhanced viewing experience for users.
Choi Ju-hui, CEO of Tving, expressed optimism about the partnership, noting, "This partnership with Disney, which has a strong presence and long history in Japan, is an opportunity to showcase Tving's content most effectively to local audiences." She further stated that Tving is committed to introducing engaging Korean content to a broader international audience, aiming to evolve from Korea's premier platform into a prominent global Korean streaming service.
