Seoul: Netflix's upcoming original series "Cashero" promises a fresh perspective on the hero genre by exploring the unique challenges faced by a protagonist whose superpower comes at a financial cost. Director Lee Chang-min emphasized at a press conference that the series, set to release on Friday, distinguishes itself from conventional superhero narratives by highlighting the struggles of an ordinary man with extraordinary abilities.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the series is based on a webtoon and follows Sang-ung, portrayed by Lee Jun-ho, an ordinary civil servant who inherits a unique superpower from his father. His strength increases with the amount of cash he possesses, but using his power drains his finances. This creates a constant struggle between managing living expenses and the desire to help others with his supernatural abilities.
Sang-ung's journey is further complicated by Jonathan, played by Lee Chae-min, who seeks to obtain his power for a mysterious organization named Beominhoe. Actor Lee Jun-ho expressed his preference for the ability of the character Bbang-mi, played by Kim Hyang-gi, who gains strength from eating. He humorously remarked on spending all his money if he had such a power, reflecting his love for food.
The series also features Kim Hye-jun as Min-sook, Sang-ung's practical girlfriend, who is committed to safeguarding his finances. Kim described Min-sook as a relatable character whose concerns are naturally rooted in her circumstances.
Director Lee Chang-min highlighted the series' focus on the value of money and genuine sincerity in helping others, aiming to convey a heartfelt message to the audience.
