Seoul: Cheong Wa Dae stated that it anticipates a court verdict for former President Yoon Suk Yeol that aligns with legal standards and public expectations, following the special counsel's demand for the death penalty regarding his attempted imposition of martial law. "Cheong Wa Dae would expect the judiciary to deliver a verdict on the special counsel's sentencing request in accordance with the law and principles, and in a manner that meets public expectations," the presidential office conveyed in a message to media shortly after the sentencing demand.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the special counsel team called for the death penalty in the final hearing of the trial on Tuesday. This follows more than a year after the former president's declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024, aimed at eliminating anti-state elements. The trial has drawn significant public attention as it addresses the actions of the ousted leader and the legality of his decisions during his tenure.
