S. Korea Plans to Launch Korean Culinary School for Foreigners

Seoul: South Korea is planning to open a culinary school specializing in Korean cuisine in the latter half of this year, targeting mainly foreigners. The agriculture ministry announced this initiative on Monday, emphasizing the goal to promote Korean culinary arts globally.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the "Sura School" aims to foster K-food experts and will begin with a trial run. This initiative comes in response to the increasing global popularity of Korean cuisine. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs is spearheading this effort.

The finalization of this plan is expected at an upcoming national policy coordination meeting, which will be led by Prime Minister Kim Min-seok later this week. Agriculture Minister Song Mi-ryung highlighted the importance of this initiative, stating that the current global status of Korean food presents an ideal opportunity to expand Korean cuisine education. The minister expressed confidence that through the Sura School, Korean cuisine will establish itself as a distinct global culinary genre, surpassing its current popularity as a temporary trend.
