Osan: Matthew Lohmeier, U.S. undersecretary of the Air Force, visited Osan Air Base in South Korea last week as part of his tour of Indo-Pacific bases, the base’s website showed Thursday. Lohmeier’s visit aimed to enhance understanding of the operations at the base located in Pyeongtaek, approximately 60 kilometers south of Seoul, on January 30.
According to Yonhap News Agency, during his visit, Lohmeier interacted with U.S. airmen and guardians, as well as senior officials from the Seventh Air Force, the 51st Fighter Wing, and Space Forces Korea. This engagement was part of ongoing efforts to gain a deeper insight into the base’s operations. The visit underscored the U.S. Air Force’s commitment to maintaining readiness and investing in the personnel, programs, and culture that support the mission of airmen and guardians.
Lohmeier emphasized the strategic importance of Osan Air Base, stating, “Being forward-postured in this region places Osan at the heart of deterrence, and their readiness is critical to protecting our nation and preventing conflict.” This statement highlights the pivotal role that the base plays in regional security and the U.S. military’s broader strategic objectives.
