S. Korea Confirms Two New Bird Flu Cases at Layer Farms

Seoul: South Korea has confirmed two additional cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza at poultry farms, bringing the total number of cases this season to 48, officials said Tuesday. The new cases were reported at layer farms in Seongju, approximately 220 kilometers south of Seoul, and Gimje, around 200 kilometers south of the capital.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters stated that authorities are currently controlling access to the affected farms. Measures include the culling of the infected birds and conducting investigations into the cases. Additionally, a 24-hour standstill order has been issued for neighboring areas of the farms to prevent further spread.

An official from the agriculture ministry emphasized the importance of preventive measures, noting that numerous bird flu cases have been reported at layer farms. Regional governments are urged to manage designated areas, deploy officers, and conduct inspections to prevent additional outbreaks.
