KRX Faces Trading Disruption Amid Sudden Market Decline

Seoul: Stock trades were briefly disrupted at the country's main bourse operator, the Korea Exchange (KRX), on Monday amid the sharp drop in the benchmark index, industry sources said. The disruption occurred as the KRX experienced technical glitches, impacting the processing of some orders made between 12:30 p.m. to 12:33 p.m. and from 1:39 p.m. to 1:41 p.m.

According to Yonhap News Agency, local brokerage Mirae Asset Securities Co. advised its customers to verify whether their orders were processed correctly, as system disruptions at the KRX might have caused delays. Trading operations at the KRX have since returned to normal, though the bourse operator is investigating the cause of the disruptions.

At one point on Monday, the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) experienced a significant decline, falling by more than 8 percent during early trading hours. This sharp drop prompted the KRX to issue a circuit breaker, temporarily halting trade for 20 minutes.
