Lee Expresses Gratitude to Turkmenistan and Singapore for Evacuation Assistance

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has extended his gratitude to the leaders of Turkmenistan and Singapore for their crucial assistance in evacuating South Korean nationals from the Middle East amid escalating regional tensions, as reported by Cheong Wa Dae.

According to Yonhap News Agency, in a letter to Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, President Lee expressed his appreciation for Turkmenistan's cooperation in facilitating the safe evacuation of 25 South Korean nationals and four Iranian nationals, who are family members of Korean citizens, from Iran to Turkmenistan last week. The Turkmen government played a significant role by designating a dedicated checkpoint to ensure the secure crossing of the Iranian border and expedited necessary procedures.

Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung highlighted in a written briefing that President Lee viewed Turkmenistan's support as a reaffirmation of the deep friendship and trust between the two countries. This cooperative effort underscored the strong bilateral relations and mutual respect shared by South Korea and Turkmenistan.

Furthermore, President Lee sent a letter to Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, thanking him for Singapore's assistance in helping four South Korean nationals in Oman travel safely to Singapore via a chartered flight over the weekend. President Lee noted that this support, which followed his summit with Prime Minister Wong in Singapore last Monday, exemplified the strategic partnership and mutual trust between the two nations.
