Samsung SDI to Unveil All-Solid-State Battery Prototype for Physical AI

Seoul: Samsung SDI Co. said Monday it plans to showcase a sample of an all-solid-state battery under development for the physical artificial intelligence (AI) industry this week. The South Korean battery maker said it will take part in the InterBattery 2026 exhibition, which will kick off in Seoul on Wednesday for a three-day run, where it plans to introduce a wide array of battery solutions and next-generation battery technologies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, among the products to be displayed by Samsung SDI is a pouch-type all-solid-state battery prototype designed for emerging physical AI applications, with mass production set to begin in the second half of 2027. "Samsung SDI is developing all-solid-state batteries that deliver advanced safety and power output for physical AI applications while adopting a pouch form factor to support lightweight design," the company said in a release.

The company, having previously focused on prismatic all-solid-state batteries for electric vehicles, now plans to diversify its form factors to support a wider range of applications. These include humanoids, various robotic platforms, aviation platforms, and next-generation wearables, according to the company's announcement.

Under the theme "Inside AI," Samsung SDI's booth at the exhibition will aim to show how batteries are embedded across different industrial sites, including applications in real-world IT data centers, the company said.
