Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will make a state visit to South Korea from March 31 to April 2 for summit talks with President Lee Jae Myung to discuss bilateral ties, Cheong Wa Dae said Friday. Prabowo is scheduled to hold summit talks with Lee on April 1, in what will mark their second meeting since early November, when the two leaders met on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the two leaders plan to discuss ways to strengthen practical cooperation in areas including trade, investment, the defense industry, and security, as well as artificial intelligence, infrastructure, shipbuilding, nuclear energy, energy transition, and the cultural sector. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated in a written briefing that there will also be in-depth discussions on ways to promote South Korea's relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as the securi ty situation and other global issues, including the Korean Peninsula and the Middle East.
Indonesia, a key ASEAN member with the world's fourth-largest population and abundant natural resources, is also an important defense industry partner for South Korea. Bilateral defense cooperation centers on the joint development of South Korea's KF-21 fighter jet, launched in 2015 and now in the final stage of development.
