Yeongdeok: A fire broke out at a wind turbine in the eastern coastal county of Yeongdeok on Monday, resulting in the death of one worker and leaving two others missing, local authorities reported. The incident occurred at approximately 1:11 p.m. within a wind power complex located about 240 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the fire claimed the life of an employee from the wind turbine company, while two other workers remain unaccounted for. All three individuals were reportedly on duty at the turbine site when the fire erupted. A police official revealed that the missing workers are believed to be inside the turbine.
Efforts to contain the fire have been challenging for firefighters, as they face difficulties entering the structure. The fire has not been completely contained, and two of the turbine's three blades have caught fire and collapsed to the ground.
Authorities have mobilized 11 helicopters and 148 personnel in an attempt to extinguish the blaze, which has extended to a nearby hill. As of now, approximately 70 percent of the fire has been brought under control.
