Lee Appoints New Senior Secretaries for Key Government Roles

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has appointed new senior presidential secretaries for communications and civil affairs, along with three other aides, the presidential chief of staff announced Sunday. According to Yonhap News Agency, Seong Ghi-hong, former CEO and president of Yonhap News Agency, has been appointed as the presidential secretary for public relations and communication. Han Chan-sik, a former senior prosecutor, has been named the presidential secretary for civil affairs. Kim Kyoung-ja, who previously served as the vice chairperson of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, the country's largest umbrella union, has been appointed as the presidential secretary for social affairs. Additionally, former Army commander Kang Gun-jark and Song Ki-ho, a senior official at the National Security Office, have been named the first and third deputy national security advisers, respectively. Presidential chief of staff Kang Hoon-sik highlighted the qualifications of the new presidential secretary for communi cation, describing Seong as a veteran journalist with 30 years of experience and a person equipped with a sense of balance and sound judgment. Kang emphasized that Seong will engage closely with the public to ensure that government policies are well understood by the citizens. The reshuffle occurs as President Lee embarks on the second year of his five-year term, having assumed office in June of the previous year.
