China’s Xi Jinping Commits to Strengthening Ties with North Korea

Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged to ensure the "long-term and stable" development of China's relationship with North Korea. This commitment comes in a reply sent to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, as reported by Pyongyang's state media on Sunday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Xi's message was in response to a congratulatory note from Kim, sent on July 1 to celebrate the 105th founding anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Xi expressed his gratitude to Kim, highlighting the shared identity of the CCP and North Korea's Workers' Party of Korea as "Marxist ruling parties." The Chinese president emphasized his readiness to guide China-DPRK relations towards sustained and stable growth, thereby advancing the socialist cause in both nations.

The term DPRK refers to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, which is North Korea's official designation. Xi's recent engagement with North Korea includes a two-day state visit to Pyongyang on June 8-9, marking his first trip there in seven years. During this visit, Xi and Kim committed to deepening bilateral cooperation and enhancing high-level communication.

The two countries are also approaching a significant milestone, as they prepare to commemorate the 65th anniversary of the North-China Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance on July 11.
