Seoul: The LG Twins, the reigning champions of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), are gearing up for a crucial homestand as they attempt to recover from a challenging July. The Twins, who began the month leading the league, have experienced a significant downturn, losing 11 of their 16 games this month, including nine of their past ten.
According to Yonhap News Agency, with a current record of 53-41-0, the 2025 Korean Series champions find themselves trailing the first-place Samsung Lions (57-35-2) by five games. The KT Wiz (53-36-2) have surged ahead of the Twins, securing second place and leading by 2 1/2 games. Although the Twins cannot reclaim the top spot before the end of July due to only four games remaining, they aim to salvage the month during their six-game homestand.
The homestand kicks off on Tuesday as the Twins host the last-place Kiwoom Heroes (35-60-2) for a three-game series at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. The Twins have performed well against the Heroes this season, with a 6-3-0 record. They will then face their Jamsil co-tenants, the Doosan Bears (48-44-3), during a three-game weekend series, boasting seven victories in nine encounters this year.
The Twins' pitching staff has struggled significantly in July, recording the highest ERA in the KBO at 6.24. Their opponents have an on-base plus slugging (OPS) of .828, the highest in the league. Over the weekend, the Twins lost two out of three games against the Hanwha Eagles, conceding 33 runs. A 14-4 defeat on Sunday highlighted their difficulties, with the team allowing 10 runs in a single inning for the first time this season.
The Twins are eagerly anticipating the arrival of their new starting pitcher, Carlos Carrasco, a major league veteran with 112 wins, who signed with the team last Wednesday. His addition is expected to bolster the Twins' pitching rotation.
Meanwhile, the KT Wiz, the league's hottest team in July, will face the NC Dinos (42-47-2) and the Eagles (45-53-3) this week as they battle for postseason positions. The Kia Tigers (50-44-2), currently in fourth place, will play away games against the Lions and the Dinos, seeking to capitalize on the Twins' recent struggles.
