Taylor: Samsung Electronics Co. announced on Thursday that it will commence construction of its second semiconductor fabrication plant, Taylor Fab 2, at its Taylor, Texas facility by the end of 2026. This information was revealed during a conference call on the company's earnings report, where Samsung stated its intention to begin mass production at the new facility by 2030. According to Yonhap News Agency, construction of Taylor Fab 1 is proceeding as planned, with operations set to start in 2026. Samsung Electronics aims to gradually ramp up production capacity for its advanced 2-nanometer process technology after Taylor Fab 1 begins operation. The company also mentioned that it is exploring the possibility of securing additional fabrication capacity to accommodate increasing customer interest in its 1.4-nanometer process, with plans to develop detailed strategies based on customer orders and discussions. The company is shifting its focus from mature processes to more profitable 3-nanometer production, wh ile concentrating on high-value specialty products that require advanced technological capabilities. Additionally, Samsung Electronics is expanding long-term supply agreements with major global data center and AI clients as part of its strategy to navigate a prolonged memory chip shortage.
