Seoul: Singer-actor Cha Eun-woo has filed an appeal against the National Tax Service (NTS) after paying approximately 13 billion won (US$9 million) in additional taxes earlier this year, according to Cha's agency, Fantagio.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cha submitted the appeal with the Tax Tribunal last month, asserting that the NTS's decision to order him to pay the additional income tax assessments was unjust. Fantagio stated that Cha filed the appeal to obtain a legal review, adhering to the procedures established by law, but did not provide further information.
By law, taxpayers have the right to submit an appeal with the tribunal within 90 days of receiving a tax bill if they believe it is unlawful or unfair. In January, Cha Eun-woo was reportedly notified by the tax service of additional income tax assessments exceeding 20 billion won, which raised suspicions of potential tax evasion.
In April, Cha stated that he had settled all related taxes to prevent ongoing confusion about the case, emphasizing his respect for the NTS's procedures and outcome.
