Seoul: Two South Korean coaches have joined the all-Spanish staff headed by Roberto Moreno for the men's national football team, the sport's national federation announced Thursday. The Korea Football Association (KFA) revealed that Cho Yong-hyung will take on the role of assistant coach, while Lee Jae-hong will be the physical trainer.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho, a former South Korean international with 42 caps, will collaborate with Eduardo Docampo to bridge communication between the staff and players. Lee will support Javier Chocarro in managing the team's physical performance. Cho previously served as the senior national team's assistant coach in early 2024 and had experience as an assistant for the men's under-17 national team. Meanwhile, Lee has an extensive background as a physical trainer, having worked with South Korea's squad in three FIFA World Cups and served in similar roles with FC Seoul and the Indonesian men's national team.
The KFA disclosed that adding South Korean coaches to the staff was discussed during a meeting with Moreno and his assistants in Spain. Moreno, who was appointed as the temporary head coach on September 1, brought along a five-man Spanish team including Docampo, Jacint Magrina, Victor Brave de Soto, Chocarro, and Nico Bosch.
Moreno and his team are contracted until November 27, during which they will manage six international friendlies for South Korea. The Taegeuk Warriors are set to host Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Uzbekistan from late September to early October, with efforts underway to arrange two additional matches in November. The KFA has indicated that Moreno's continuation through the Asian Football Confederation Asian Cup in January will depend on the team's performance in these upcoming games.
